Tara L. Kennedy is a member of the
American Immigration Lawyers Association and is admitted to the Maryland State Bar, the United States District Court, Western District of Oklahoma, and the United States District Court for Maryland. She is on the Immigration Committee of the Maryland State Bar Association. She served as
legal counsel for the nonprofit Middle Eastern American Association Immigration Service. She has successfully argued cases before the
Executive Office of Immigration Review, Board of Immigration Appeals, and Federal Court.
Experienced before the Immigration Court, Tara L. Kennedy has adjusted many respondents in removal proceedings to legal permanent residency. Appellate experience includes not only appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals but
mandamus and declaratory relief in the US District Courts.
She successfully constructed and presented an argument in federal court to allow successive writs of habeas corpus, which allowed her to secure the release of immigration detainees subject to indefinite detention. Kennedy has developed
expertise in post-conviction
relief
in the state of Maryland. A creative and dedicated problem-solver, she was the first attorney in twenty four years to successfully sue the Oklahoma County Detention Center for denying a detainee the right to marry in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
